PORTUGAL - TURKISH EMPIRE: 1865, lettersheet from Lisbon to Smyrna, franked with 1862/64, 5, 10, 25 and 100 (2) reis, tied by numeral "1" with adjacent "LISBOA 19/8 65" and boxed "P.D."; on reverse transit marks of railway "VERVIERS/COELN" and Trieste and arrival mark of the Austrian PO. Two stamps cut into, otherwise mostly ample to good margins. An attractive and rare 4-colour franking; the only recorded letter from Portugal via Trieste to Turkey.
